What is Courage?
- World Definition of Courage: The strength of mind to carry on in spite of danger or difficulty (Merriam-Webster).
- Biblical Definition of Courage: The willingness to act in obedience to God’s
- calling and purposes, relying on His strength and guidance.
How can I get courage?*
- The Lord! We have the Holy Spirit since we became saved. Boldly declare,
- “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear!” (Hebrews 13:6).
Ask the Lord to give you a desire and burden to share the gospel.
- Paul was heavily burdened for unsaved people (Romans 10:1).
One of my favorite children’s books is Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin. Pete the Cat wore white shoes and sang, “I love my white shoes.” He accidentally stepped on a pile of strawberries, turning his shoes red, and sang, “I love my red shoes.” Then he stepped on blueberries and happily sang, “I love my blue shoes.” Finally, he stepped in water, but he wasn’t upset or discouraged; he sang, “I love my wet shoes.” The point is that we should have the courage to share the gospel in joy, no matter what happens in our lives. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Satan wants to discourage you.
**Courageous Women of the New Testament:**
- Anna the Prophetess (Luke 2:36-38)
- The Samaritan Woman (John 4:7-30)
- The Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mark 5:25-34)
- Mary Magdalene (John 20:18)
- Lydia (Acts 16:14-15)
Jesus told Legion to go home and share about Him (Mark 5:19).
Make the most of every opportunity when you are around people.
- Act like Jesus. Remember people are watching you.
- Present your testimony. Share your blessings.
- Share the gospel by telling them the good news.
- Give out tracts.
- Meet their needs. Show your love.
- Invite them to church, church activities, or Bible study.
- Always ask for forgiveness with a humble heart.
- Many more that you can think of as Christlikeness.
“… redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” (Colossians 4:5-6)
Jesus wanted us to be like fishermen. (Matthew 4:19).
- The story of a grandfather and a girl who visit the lake every week.
- We must be fishermen for our whole lives, regardless of how many fish we
- catch.
- Fishing requires prayer, patience, and persistence.
**The Great Commission**
Jesus’ command to us to go and proclaim Gospel until He returns (Matthew 28:19-20).
