“Keeping Your Heart Right with God and Others”
Matthew 6:12-15
- God’s Example and Promise – Ephesians 1:7; I John 1:9; Psalm 103:12
Jesus forgave those that wronged Him at Calvary. He died for our sins. He did not have any sin yet He cried out, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” That was forgiveness in the highest degree. (Luke 23:34) - Forgiveness Asked of Others – Proverbs 28:13
Wrong ways to ask for forgiveness- “Sorry” is insufficient! They need to use the correct words – “Please, forgive me for __.”
- “I did wrong, but you made me mad!”
- “I couldn’t help it.”
- “I was tired, or sick, or …”
Do not offer excuses or try to justify your sin. Use the right words. “I was wrong. Please forgive me for (fill in the blank).”
Unforgiveness causes bitterness and bitterness causes problems:
- High stress Levels
- Weakened immune system
- High blood pressure
- Sleep issues
- Digestive issues
- Muscle tensions and pain
- Faster aging
- Forgiveness Given to Others
- Mark 11:25; Matthew 6:15; Matthew 18:21-22; Colossians 3:13
How to give forgiveness when someone sins against you.
Conclusion:
What God says about people who do not ask for forgiveness is, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I WILL REPAY, saith the Lord.” Romans 12:19
